If you see smoke coming from the engine, immediately stop the vehicle and check the following items:


Worn or damaged engine 


The engine itself may be worn or even damaged.


Further investigation may be required.


Overheating engine


Check the engine temperature. 


If it is over 115 degrees then the vehicle is overheating. 


If so, check the following:


  • Both fans are wired in properly and are working. 
  • Coolant level. Top up if necessary. 
  • Engine Oil level
  • Dirt and debris blocking radiator


Cylinder head gasket failure


Check if the cylinder head gasket. 


Carry out pressure test or carbon monoxide test is applicable.  


Replace if necessary.


Cylinder heads


Check for cylinder head cracks or damage.
